Kalki Koechlin admits facing difficulty to find a house post divorce with Anurag Kashyap; recalls being JOBLESS after Dev D

Kalki Koechlin has been a prominent part of film industry and she has solidified her position with ground breaking roles. She was last seen in a special appearance in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Apart from her professional endeavours, Kalki has been in limelight for her divorce with Anurag Kashyap. In a recent interview, Kalki reveals how it was difficult for her to find a house because she was a divorcee.

Kalki on not getting house after divorce with Anurag

In an interview on AfterHours with All About Eve YouTube channel, Kalki recalled how things were difficult post divorce with Anurag Kashyap. “When me and Anurag had divorced, those two films were out there – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Then, there’s this divorce,” the actor said.

The actor said that after the separation, she was unable to find a place to live in Mumbai. She recalled. “Then, I couldn’t find a place to live. Nobody would give me a house to rent in Mumbai as a single woman. I was like, I am famous. You want to take selfies with me, but you don’t want to give me a house.”

Kalki on being out of work

Talking about the phase she financially struggled after Dev D, Kalki recalls, “Right after Dev D, I didn’t have another film for about two years. I think the next film was Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.” Kalki shared that for those two years, she did a play that she put together after winning a prize of Rs 1 lakh. When asked how she managed her finances during this time, Kalki said that she lived on vada pao and traveled in local trains.

Kalki Koechlin shared that she has the image of a successful person when in fact, she is a lot less successful than what people think. “People know me and see my face and everyone is really familiar with me but then they are really surprised to see me on public transport. They say, ‘How can you not be with a bodyguard?’ Like it’s this weird dichotomy where somehow I have an image which is bigger than who I really am,” she said.

For those unversed, Kalki and Anurag were married from 2011-15. They separated in late 2013.
